President Donald Trump gives a speech at the New NATO Headquarters in Brussels paying tribute to the victims of the Manchester attack, urging NATO countries to pay their fair share, and calling on all allies to unite against extremism.

Brussels, Belgium

Trump has so far refused to personally commit to abiding by Article 5. U.S., which commits allies to defend any of the 28 members that come under attack. But Press Secretary Sean Spicer says, "It goes without saying" that Trump's presence at the event underscores the White House's "commitments and treaty obligations."

Make Manchester proud. And Manchester United did just that to win the Europa League, to close the circle on trophies claimed in their history, and to return to the Champions League. This was also a tiny slice of defiant joy after the trauma and horror of two nights ago back in Manchester. This was one for the city – as Manchester City tweeted at the final whistle “#ACityUnited”. That was a classy touch.

And “Manchester” was the raucous, unbridled release of a chant throughout and at the end from the United fans banked up in this arena as their team took control of the encounter. 

Jose Mourinho, that serial trophy hunter, won his 12th final from the 14 he has contested. Tactically, it was textbook Mourinho.

Welcome back to the Champions League – and straight into the group stages – for United. And welcome back for Mourinho who became the first manager to win the Champions League and the Europa League twice. He has won all four finals in European competition that he has contested. He raised four fingers in celebration.

And how he celebrated. How he likes to make his point. He appeared taut, insistent, as he raised his finger to the stands – still No 1 or making a point? – and then tumbled to the turf unbalanced as his son Jose Jnr jumped into his arms. He later stood on his own, arms outstretched, before the United fans and went up first to kiss the trophy.

Pittsburgh Penguins Vs Ottawa Senators Results/Highlights | May 23, 2017

If you didn’t know that the Stanley Cup Playoffs can be awfully cruel, then the last week or so of action should make it pretty clear.

The Nashville Predators lost top center Ryan Johansen to a scary ailment few would have seen coming. The Anaheim Ducks fell in both games to the Johansen-less Predators, even after dominating significant chunks of Game 6. At least one Ducks player wondered if the better team won.

Much like in life, “fair” and “deserve” only matter so much. Sports have a scoreboard to serve as the ultimate deciding factor.

The Pittsburgh Penguins have similar thoughts after falling 2-1 to the Ottawa Senators tonight, extending the Eastern Conference Final to a decisive Game 7. You can nitpick questionable penalties and missed chances, but really, how negative can you be after Craig Anderson puts forth a blazing 45-save performance (with no overtime)?

Mike Sullivan and others echoed such thoughts.

” … Obviously, we’re disappointed in the result, but I don’t think we can get discouraged by that,” Sullivan said. “I think we’ve got to take the positives from it, and we’ve got to build on it, and we’ve got to become a more determined team for Game 7.

That’s not the sort of take that’s going to make the Senators angry in Game 7. The tone of the Senators’ discussions was likely very different after they lost Game 5 by a 7-0 score, yet maybe there was similar self-belief.

Since its return in 2008, the Ohio Cup trophy has been awarded to the team that conquers the season series. Cleveland has won this competition on three different occasions, Cincinnati has claimed victory four times and three ties have been mixed in between. The yearly tradition also crowns a most valuable player, the most recent being Rajai Davis in 2016.
